HRF to Speak on Bolivia at the Inter-American Commission
WASHINGTON (December 5, 2018) — Today, the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), along with the Bolivian nonprofit Observatory for Human Rights and Justice Foundation, will participate in a public hearing at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in Washington, D.C. The hearing, which takes place during the IACHR’s 170th Period of Sessions, will address President Evo Morales and Vice President Álvaro García Linera’s decision to run for a third, illegal term. Their campaign contravenes the will of the Bolivian people, who voted against expanding term limits during a 2016 constitutional referendum.
HRF Senior Legal Associate Mauricio Alarcón Salvador will testify during the hearing, along with the chairman and executive director of the Observatory for Human Rights and Justice Foundation, José Antonio Rivera Santiváñez and Rubén Darío Cuellar. The hearing takes place at the Padilha Vidal Room of the IACHR, between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. EST.
Watch the hearing online via the IACHR’s livestream here.
The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies.
