In a new op-ed for @RealClearWorld , FIFA World Cup 2022 whistleblower Abdullah Ibhais recounts how he was jailed in Qatar after refusing to cover up labor abuses tied to the World Cup, and how he is now being prevented from traveling after authorities allegedly demanded his silence.

Ibhais argues that while Qatar has worked to bury scrutiny of worker exploitation and deaths linked to the World Cup, FIFA has escaped meaningful accountability despite profiting billions from the tournament and repeatedly celebrating it as a success.

As the 2026 World Cup approaches, Ibhais calls on governments, football associations, sponsors, broadcasters, and fans to demand independent oversight and hold FIFA to the same human rights standards expected of any powerful multinational institution.
