Middle East and North Africa (Iran) – Feb 6, 2026

Iranian human rights activist, Narges Mohammadi, who has been detained since December 2025, is now on the fourth day of her hunger strike. Her family informed the public that she is conducting the hunger strike to demand the right to call her family, access her domestic lawyers, and receive visits. Her family was informed of the hunger strike by an individual recently released from the prison where Mohammadi is held.

Mohammadi was arrested on Dec. 12, 2025, after attending the funeral of another human rights lawyer who died under suspicious circumstances. She was beaten during her arrest, and is currently being held in solitary confinement. Mohammadi has a medical history of heart attacks, chest pains, and high blood pressure.

Mohammadi has spent the majority of the past two decades in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison. HRF calls for her unconditional release and the release of all prisoners of conscience in Iran, including those detained during the ongoing protests.
