On Feb. 24, 2022, Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and began launching missile strikes on major cities, shelling military and civilian infrastructure, and advancing across the country with the goal of overthrowing the democratically elected Ukrainian government.
Cities near the frontlines in the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine continue to suffer attacks by the Russian military. Russian forces have indiscriminately targeted residential buildings, elementary schools, hospitals, and humanitarian aid corridors. The war has killed nearly 10,000 Ukrainian civilians, injured tens of thousands, and caused millions to flee their homes. Today, many people within Ukraine rely on humanitarian aid to survive.
Since the full-scale invasion, HRF has partnered with several locally based organizations to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukrainians. Our partners work directly with Ukrainian government leaders, local districts, Ukrainian business leaders, NGOs, and volunteers to coordinate and distribute aid throughout Ukraine’s most vulnerable regions.
