About the Human Rights Foundation (HRF):

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is a New York-based human rights organization focused on carrying out projects that expose the abuses perpetrated by authoritarian regimes worldwide. HRF is also dedicated to supporting dissidents from countries ruled by these authoritarian regimes. Our mission is to protect and promote human rights and civil liberties globally, with a focus on closed societies.

 

Job Overview:

The Director of Compliance will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing compliance programs across HRF, under the supervision of the President, the Chief Legal & Policy Officer and the Chief Advocacy Officer. Success in this position involves ensuring that HRF adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of compliance throughout the organization. This role is critical to safeguarding the organizationтАЩs integrity and maintaining compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations.

 

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Periodically review, update and oversee the execution of HRFтАЩs current compliance protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures tailored to HRFтАЩs mission and operational context.
  • Monitor and assess compliance risks, implementing measures to mitigate potential issues.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and reviews to identify risks and gaps.
  • Educate and train staff on compliance policies and procedures.
  • Develop and update compliance manuals, guidelines, and documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and other departments to address compliance matters.
  • Monitor industry developments and update compliance developments in human rights advocacy and compliance regulations to update strategies accordingly.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and adjust compliance strategies accordingly, particularly those related to human rights and non-profit organizations.

 

Qualifications:

  • BachelorтАЩs degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field (MasterтАЩs or JD preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in compliance, risk management, or a related field, preferably within the non-profit or human rights sector.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance best practices, especially those related to non-profit organizations and international human rights advocacy.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective compliance programs.
  • Certification in Compliance Management (e.g., CCEP, CRCM, CIPP) is preferred.

 

Compensation:

  • $90K – 120K/year plus company-sponsored comprehensive benefits package.
