As the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) reflects on 20 years since its founding, we’re taking a moment to look back on what has enabled us to stand up to tyranny, support courageous dissidents, and amplify the voices of those risking everything to speak truth to power.

Since our founding in 2005, HRF has worked to advance human rights in countries ruled by authoritarian regimes. We’ve defended prisoners of conscience, provided direct support to nonviolent frontline activists and innovators, helped smuggle uncensored information into closed societies, and hosted events such as the Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF) to connect dissidents from across the globe and strengthen their movements.
