Business Insider: ‘Vibe coding’ is shaping freedom tech

In just eight minutes, Twitter and Square founder Jack Dorsey and HRF technical lead Justin Moon vibe coded a cutting-edge website for a human rights organization using only voice commands. The feat was part of a live demonstration the duo gave at an HRF workshop earlier this year.

During our sessions at the 2025 Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF), participants witnessed the power of vibe coding, from a 7-year-old building a website for his mom to developer Alex Gleason presenting MKStacks, a tool designed to help activists and users in general build applications on nostr with this innovative approach.

Freedom advocates have much to gain from vibe coding. It empowers individuals, even those without technical backgrounds, to build websites, applications, and tools that resist censorship and surveillance.

This week, Business Insider spotlighted Dorsey’s latest side project: Bitchat, an encrypted messaging app built over a Bluetooth mesh network. He coded it in record time, thanks to Goose, Block’s AI coding assistant. The article cites the HRF demonstration as proof of concept, underscoring how our community is leading the way on adapting new technologies.

Such technologies can play a crucial role for activists and communities striving to maintain digital autonomy under authoritarian regimes.

If you’re curious to see vibe coding in action, you can revisit our Freedom Tech and AI tracks from this year’s OFF, where these emerging technologies took center stage.
