On the eighth anniversary of the Chinese regime’s unjust imprisonment of Dr. Gulshan Abbas, HRF and @LantosFoundation call for her immediate release. A retired Uyghur medical doctor with no history of activism, she was disappeared on September 11, 2018 — days after her US-based sister, activist @RushanAbbas, spoke out about the regime’s abuses.
“For eight long years, our beloved mother, sister, and grandmother has suffered in a Chinese prison, simply because an American citizen exercised her right to free speech. We have received little proof of life and have had virtually no contact with her,” said ziba116, daughter of Dr. Gulshan Abbas. “My mother has 24 family members who are American citizens, including four grandchildren. We all feel the terrible impact of China’s transnational repression. We ask the US administration to do everything in its power to help restore my mother’s freedom and bring her home to us.”
The Chinese government secretly sentenced Dr. Gulshan Abbas to 20 years in prison on fabricated terrorism charges. Dr. Gulshan Abbas must be released immediately and unconditionally, and safely reunited with her family.
