HRF & The Signal release newspaper on corruption

HRF and The Signal Release ‘Altered States’

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is excited to announce the release of “Altered States,” a limited-run newspaper examining how dictators use power and illicit wealth to undermine democracy and strengthen authoritarianism. The newspaper explores the question: How much influence do foreign autocratic regimes have on democracies?

HRF and The Signal Release ‘Altered States’

Altered States is our second collaboration with The Signal, following last year’s publication of “The Long Game.” It features conversations with Ben Freeman, Miranda Patrucić, Justin Callais, and Josh Rudolph, who discuss how authoritarian governments build political influence in democracies, why dictators keep disrupting democratic countries, the dangers posed by autocratic corruption, and what democracies can do about it.

Corruption is a defining trait linking all modern dictatorships — a central theme of HRF’s Combating Kleptocracy program, launched in 2023. This initiative exposes how authoritarian regimes rely on illicit finance and transnational money laundering to conceal wealth and target  opponents.

We invite you to read Altered States and encourage you to share it widely to help raise awareness. Help us combat kleptocracy by exposing corruption.
