Hossein Shanbehzadeh

Hossein Shanbehzadeh is an Iranian online activist and freelance editor who became a symbol of defiance with a single keystroke: he replied to a post by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei with nothing but a period — and the reply went viral. In 2024, agents of the Provincial Intelligence Department violently arrested him in Ardabil. The regime falsely accused him of spying for Israel and charged him with “insulting the sacred values of Islam” and “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.” In August 2024, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He is now held in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison, where he has endured solitary confinement and torture.
