*The Human Rights Foundation (“HRF”) is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to promoting and protecting human rights and advancing democracy worldwide, with a particular focus on authoritarian regimes. In carrying out its charitable mission, HRF exercises a rigorous due diligence process in evaluating all prospective grantees, partners, and program participants (“Applicants”).
As part of this vetting process, HRF reviews publicly available information relevant to an Applicant’s qualifications, professionalism, integrity, and alignment with HRF’s mission. This may include, but is not limited to, public statements, academic or journalistic writings, professional affiliations, and other publicly-available materials.
HRF reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to decline support or participation to any Applicant whose conduct, advocacy, or publicly expressed views are reasonably determined to be inconsistent with HRF’s mission and values. Grounds for disqualification may include:
i. Support for or advocacy on behalf of authoritarian regimes, including actions or statements that materially endorse, legitimize, or apologize for these regimes;
ii. Engagement in, incitement of, or explicit endorsement of violence; and
iii. Expressions of xenophobia, homophobia, racism, discrimination, and/or extreme political partisanship (when dealing with democratic governments) on social media.
Nothing in this disclaimer shall be interpreted as restricting any individual’s right to free expression. Rather, HRF retains the discretion to determine how best to allocate its resources in furtherance of its charitable mandate and to ensure that all grantmaking and programmatic activities advance HRF’s mission of promoting human rights and challenging authoritarianism.
