HRF condemns Sunday’s violent abduction of Tanzanian human rights activist Mshabaha Hamza Mshabaha in Kenya in a coordinated operation to forcibly return him to Tanzania. HRF calls on Kenya to ensure his safety and hold Tanzania accountable for its campaign of transnational repression on Kenyan soil.

Kenyan police have detained two Kenyans and a Tanzanian who used a vehicle on Sunday to lure Mshabaha, a well-known critic of Tanzania’s regime, before attacking him and attempting to drug him. @lifeofmshaba managed to escape from the vehicle before police rescued him.

The attack on Mshabaha follows the January 2025 abduction of prominent Tanzanian human rights activist Maria Sarungi-Tsehai in another foiled rendition operation. Maria later recounted her ordeal at the @Osloff.
