X @HRF

Asia-Pacific (China) – April 13, 2026

HRF joins @amnesty and 24 other organizations in calling on China to release human rights lawyer Yu Wensheng upon completing his three-year prison sentence on baseless charges of “inciting subversion of state power.” His detention is arbitrary and part of a broader crackdown on human rights lawyers in China.

Yu was imprisoned for his human rights work: defending victims, calling for legal reform and checks against state power, and speaking out against state abuses. His prosecution reflects a pattern of the regime using vague laws to silence dissent.

Officials must ensure Yu is reunited with his family, free from surveillance and harassment, and that he is able to exercise his fundamental rights. #FreeYuWensheng. Read the letter here.
