Today, Russian lawyer Alexei Liptser turns 39 in prison. HRF condemns his arbitrary detention and demands that the Russian regime release him immediately and unconditionally.
Liptser represented the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny after his 2021 arrest, ensuring Navalny had legal counsel amid the Kremlin’s growing crackdown.
In 2023, Liptser and his colleague, Vadim Kobzev, were arrested and in 2025 were sentenced to over five years for allegedly relaying messages between Navalny and the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which was declared “extremist” in a widely criticized ruling.
Liptser is a father to a young daughter. In September, the Kremlin cruelly barred him from attending the funeral of his mother, the late human rights attorney Elena Liptser. HRF calls on Russia to free Alexei Liptser and Vadim Kobzev immediately.
