Creative Director (New York, NY)
Responsible for assessing and ensuring the quality of design of the public relations work produced by the creative department. Establish design and marketing strategies to be used by the public relations team in spreading awareness of the Company’s mission. Specific duties will include:

  • Build and monitor the graphic design creative department through overseeing the creative budget as well as proposing recommendations for more efficient and effective processes in the future.
  • Translate marketing and public relations objectives into clear creative strategies and ensure brand guidelines are met across HRF’s communication channels, which includes but is not limited to marketing materials (digital and print), social media campaigns, press releases, reports, videos, short-form documentaries, and other HRF materials.
  • Work with the marketing team to build more efficient processes across departments.
  • Support leadership and the marketing team in developing HRF’s campaigns to raise awareness through strategic creative design within the public relations materials about the nature and vulnerability of freedom around the world and bringing human rights and the struggle for freedom and democracy into the mainstream of global public discussion.
  • Design and implement creative design concepts, guidelines, and strategies in various projects and oversee them to completion, which includes marketing and public relations campaigns, exhibitions, environmental design for events, pitches and presentations, promotional campaigns, and other projects associated with HRF’s various programs.
  • Plan and oversee the development of an ongoing social media strategy and graphics across digital platforms and printed materials for the Oslo Freedom Forum and for HRF’s programs.
  • Lead the creative direction and user experience of HRF websites which include HRF.org, oslofreedomforum.com, putincon.com, flashdrivesforfreedom.com, emptyboxseats.com, etc.
  • Recruit, train, and develop team leads and managers in the creative department and support the training of HRF’s Communications Associate and Social Media Coordinator.
  • Manage two (2) creative and graphic design contractors for HRF’s programs and campaigns.
  • Manage an additional creative and design contractor, as well as a production contractor, for the Oslo Freedom Forum conference series.
  • Will be required, at times, to work evenings and/or weekends for meetings and pre- and post-production events.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Journalism, Communications, Advertising, Graphic Design, or a related field of study, plus 3 years of experience in translating marketing and public relations goals into strategies and creating digital and graphic content within the human rights industry. Experience must include, which may be gained concurrently:

  • Three (3) years of experience creating and implementing graphic design procedures for working with multidisciplinary creatives, as well as production contractors;
  • Three (3) years of experience utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite programs such as InDesign, Premiere Pro, or After Effects;
  • Three (3) years of experience using project management platforms such as Monday, Asana, Smartsheet, and Miro;
  • Three (3) years of experience managing interdepartmental relations to ensure effective communication and project completion;
  • One (1) year of experience using the design program, Figma; and
  • Demonstrated skills in advanced communications and cross-cultural abilities to maximize effectiveness of campaigns, videos, and other creative outputs.
