HRF welcomes the decision of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention ruling that the arrest and detention of Thai activist Sopon ‘Get’ Surariddhidhamrong was arbitrary and in violation of international law.
Surariddhidhamrong is a prominent activist and member of Moke Luang Rim Nam, a student pro-democracy group advocating for reform of the monarchy and the release of political prisoners.
HRF and @TLHR2014 submitted a petition on his behalf in November 2024.

Surariddhidhamrong is among more than 270 pro-democracy activists currently imprisoned in Thailand. The Thai regime continues to weaponize the lèse-majesté law to silence critics and target human rights activists, using its vaguely worded provisions on “insulting the monarch” to prosecute and detain those exercising their freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly.
