Event organizers have donated space to HRF in the heart of their main expo hall to help us recruit new media experts to the human rights movement.

On October 11 and 12 HRF will be displaying its Flash Drives for Freedom project in the PubCon main exhibit hall. Conference attendees can visit Booth #117 to learn how outside information can be sent into North Korea on flash drives, SD cards, and helicopter drones to help free people’s minds.

“By showcasing the peaceful struggle against dictatorship at PubCon, we’re going to connect with technologists and problem-solvers who can support activists and build them better tools for advancing human rights,” said HRF chief strategy officer Alex Gladstein. “In the case of this week’s audience, they have enough know-how in the realm of internet search to supercharge the work of North Korean defectors and other dissidents, and get their advocacy on the radar of a much bigger global audience," continued Gladstein.

Founded in 2000 as an informal gathering of early Web search engine optimizers and webmasters, PubCon has evolved into the leading conference and trade show in the search engine optimization space. Today the event is supported by the industry’s leading businesses, speakers, exhibitors, and sponsors involved in social media, Internet marketing, search engines, and online advertising.

HRF’s PubCon exhibit follows appearances at SXSW in March and DEF CON in August, and will be followed by appearances at the Mozilla Festival and WIRED conference in London on October 28-30 and November 3-4. The Flash Drives for Freedom exhibit and program is made possible with the help of our partners Forum 280 and USB Memory Direct.

Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies.
