Anacleto Micha Ndong Nlang

Anacleto Micha Ndong Nlang is an Equatoguinean lawyer and human rights activist who defended arrested activists and led social media campaigns exposing abuses by the regime of Teodoro Obiang, the world’s longest-ruling president. Detained and tortured from September 2022 to June 2023, he did what few in Equatorial Guinea dare: upon release, he filed a criminal complaint against the senior security officials responsible for his torture. His answer came on January 26, 2024, when plainclothes officers arrested him at his home without a warrant and charged him with slander over that very complaint. He was last heard from on March 22, 2024, and was later transferred to Oveng Azem maximum-security prison, where he remains held incommunicado, cut off from his family and lawyers. In December 2024, HRF petitioned the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on his behalf. In response, the Working Group ruled his detention arbitrary and called for his immediate release and full reparations — a decision made public in Spring 2026 that HRF and its partners are now pressing Equatorial Guinea to implement.
